Members of Handsworth Community Forum were reassured by Police at their monthly meeting on Monday that a change in policing boundaries in the area and a cut in officers would not affect community policing.

As of April 2nd South Yorkshire Police will be changing around its sections in the Handsworth/Woodhouse area following a number of job cuts in the police force.

Government funding cuts are causing a number of intelligence development officers to lose their jobs, and chairman of the Forum, Maurice Littlewood said that members of Handsworth community couldn't understand why cuts were happening, "It doesn't make sense to us that with an increase of Crime, cuts are being made."

Other members of the forum raised concerns that changes could jeopardize how efficiently their area is policed.
PSCO Anna Smith said ,"We understand the concern with keeping up the number of community police officers in the area but assure that the faces you see won't change, and neither will our dedication to the community."

Members of the forum are keen to raise their concerns at  their monthly forum meetings. Maurice Littlewood said, "We like to raise these issues cause our main interest is to keep our neighbourhood and community safe."
