A number of groups, including the Handsworth Forum, Heeley City Farm and the Parish Church have joined together to work on the plans for the project.
John Lecorney from the Heeley City Farm group said: "We work with different projects dealing with an array of things but as soon as we heard of the Jubilee garden plans we were interested in helping to transform the community area."
The project has been confirmed a grant of £6,000 from the Council to support the project and supply materials needed, including wheelbarrows and tunnels.
Manager of the Parish Centre, Tim Schafer said the aim is for everyone to pitch in together and really create a site that can be enjoyed by the young and old. "It's not about the gardens looking pristine or perfect we want the finished look to represent the community coming together and create something to be proud of."
Plans for the site..
The site used to be old ward gardens but has since become run down, with plans to build paths and tunnels with different areas of flower beds around the gardens. "Its a perfect opportunity for everyone to get their knees dirty and pitch in!"
